Meet Our Officers!

Elise Schmaltz - President

Elise is a sophomore studying Animal Science with an equine concentration. She grew up on her family farm with horses and pigs. At five years old she started showing at Berrien County youth fair, and since has competed in the Pinto Circuit with her gelding Augie in the all around division. She was also a member of her high school equestrian team through MIHA. Elise has a passion for showmanship and horsemanship because of the teamwork teamwork and partnership it requires between horse and rider. She hopes to share her passion with up and coming leaders of the horse industry.

Jada Lashuay - Vice President

Jada is a sophomore majoring in Social Relations and policy through the James Madison program. She grew up riding from age six, and has loved the horse world ever since. She grew up competing in 4-H at Montcalm County and rode all through high school on her school's MIHA equestrian team. She has a pony named Red that she rides western, hunt seat, and speed on, as well as the occasional saddleseat ride or jumping course. Above everything else horses are the first love of her life and she loves to spread her passion and love for them.

Abby Holland - Secretary

Abby is a senior majoring in Animal Science. She has also completed the Horse Management Certificate through MSU's IAT program. This is her second year on the board as club secretary. She is also the CANR representative for the MSU Driving Club. She did not grow up with horses but made a place for herself in the industry by finding new experiences for herself. From mucking stalls to working on farms and ranches, and even studying abroad in Ireland on an equine exchange program. Abby hopes to not only share her passion but continue to network within the industry, and to help others to get their foot in the door.

Bailee Smith - Communications

Bailee is a sophomore studying veterinary nursing. She grew up loving horses and started riding three years ago. She competes in speed events in Branch County with her horse Rusty. She loves sharing her love of horses with those around her.

Andrea Luttman - Advisor 

Andrea is a 3rd-year Genetics & Genome Sciences PhD Candidate who will be studying stress resilience in pigs under Dr. Cathy Ernst in the Animal Science department. She graduated from MSU's Animal Science department in 2019. She has helped run the MSUHA Green & White Show a few different years and is a Board Officer for the Friends of the MSU HTRC organization.
